Birthstones are those gems that are associated with a birth month, and are said to have a unique meaning and historical significance.Many ancient civilizations believed that gemstones had incredible powers such as luck, health and prosperity.

Garnet, the January birthstones, is found in a variety of colors. Ranging from the intense and hot orange shaded Mandarin Garnet to the rich green of Tsavarite Garnet and to the most commonly found and widely recognized crimson color of Pyrope Garnet, you can take your pick of the favorite. Garnet symbolizes friendship and trust.

Amethyst, which is the birthstone of February, is a type of the rose Quartz stone which sports shades of purple ranging from dark violets to light lilacs. In Ancient Greece, it was believed that wearing an amethyst gave people a balanced mindset. The alternate gemstones for February are  kunzite.

The March birthstone is the Aquamarine. These gemstones have a rich color and are seen as symbols of health and hope and vitality. It features a blue/green shade, much like the colors of the sea.

Diamonds, the birthstone of April, are famously seen as symbols of love and are therefore  the most wanted jewelry gift by women all over the world. White diamonds are the most common and sought after stone but diamonds are available in a variety of other colors as well, including, yellow, blue, pink..

Emerald, the birthstone of May, carries the rich green color of Spring and radiates a beautiful vivid tone. They are considered to be a symbol of rebirth and love. Emeralds are the rarest gemstones and are very precious.

June birthdays claim two birthstones; pearl and Alexandrite. Pearls have been wildly popular in jewelry for centuries because of their natural beauty. Alexandrite gemstones are extremely rare and desirable since they change color based on the lighting.

Rubies, the king of gemstones are the birthstone of July. and are said to represent love, health and wisdom. It is an ancient belief that wearing a fine red Ruby bestows good fortune on its wearer.

Peridot is the birthstone of August, is lime green and is only found in this color. It is believed to instill power and influence as well as protect against nightmares.

Sapphire, the birthstone of September, is most desired in its pure, rich blue color. In the Middle Ages the gem was believed to protect those close to you from harm and also represented loyalty and trust.

October born people also have two birthstones; Tourmaline and Opal. Tourmaline is a favorite gemstone for many because it’s available in so many beautiful colors. Opal is a truly unique gem because each stone has a distinct pattern..

Those who have birthdays in November have two gems as birth stones; Citrine and Topaz. The Citrine is said to be a gift from the sun and is believed to have healing properties when worn against the skin in a ring or a pendant. it’s believed to be a healing gemstone. Topaz is found in an orange color as well as others like blue, pink and yellow.

December birthdays have three gemstones to their name; Zircon, Tanzanite and Turquoise. Each of these gemstones carries a unique blue tone reminiscent of icicles and frozen water. Zircon is available in many colors, but blue is the overwhelming favorite.
